KALONA - Iris Nadine Soukup was born February 2, 1940 in Muscatine, Iowa the daughter of Knowlton and Ruth (Morrison) Fletcher. She graduated from Wapello High School and received nurses training in Burlington. On December 13, 1972 she was united in marriage to Richard Soukup at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in rural Ainsworth before moving to Kalona in 1993. She worked at the Wapello Sale Barn, Wapello Grocery Store, Kalonial Townhouse, Yotty's Ice Cream and JW's Deli. She was a member of the Salem Church of God. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Iris died on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty at the age of 71 years. Iris is survived by her husband Richard of Kalona; three sons Kirk Soukup and wife Karen and their children Steven and Michael of Middletown; Brad Soukup and fiancé Tina and their children Dakota, Austin and Katerina of Muscatine; Kyle Soukup and wife Laura and their children Sarah and Emma of West Branch; three sisters Shirley Samuels and husband Jack of Wapello; Karolyn Sanders and husband Art of Hartford, WI; Llewann Bryant and husband Rich of Wapello; and a brother Perry Fletcher of Wapello. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Rev Lynn Patrick will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery in rural Ainsworth. Visiation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice.
