Irene L. Whitmore was born on December 20, 1915 in Corydon, IA, a daughter of George and Minnie Hixenbaugh Finley. She married Marion W. Conner Sr. On December 29, 1933. They were later divorced. Irene worked in Cedar Rapids, IA, and while there, met Walker H. Whitmore. They were married on July 25, 1954, in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in California where Irene worked a number of years for Deluxe Check Printing. When walker retired in 1976, they moved to Millersburg, IA. Irene attended the Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English, IA in August 2000. Irene died following a long illness on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the English Valley Care Center. She lived 88 years, 7 months and 9 days. Irene is survived by two daughters: JoAnn Ronnenberg (Bill) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Joyce Stone (Bill) of Austin, TX; a son: Marion Conner (Shirley) of Millersburg, IA; a step-daughter Joyce Thompson (Richard) of Las Vegas, NV; a sister: Juanita Cox of Fraizer, Park, CA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; Also surviving is a sister-in-law Lillian Finley of Coralville, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walker in September 2003; five brothers: Roy, Dean, Pearl, Charles and Lloyd Finley; and a step-son Jim Whitmore. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 1, 2004 in the Millersburg Cemetery, Millersburg, IA. Hospice Chaplain Anna Bradshaw will officiate. There will be no visitation.
