Irene L. Krehbiel, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18th, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to The Ronald McDonald House. Born January 31, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Irene Leona was the daughter of Hjalmar and Eda L. Molander Johnson. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Following high school, Irene married Gilford Roth. They later divorced. On July 16, 1960, she married Harold Krehbiel in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death. During high school, Irene work for Rite Price Grocery Store. She helped establish Roth Trucking while married to Gilford Roth. Following their divorce, Irene worked for Sheaffer Pen Company and then for IRC in Burlington, IA. In later years, she worked as a hostess at Jerry's Restaurant. Irene valued spending time with family and friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She had an infectious smile and never knew a stranger. Irene was known for her beautifully hand-written letters and famous rice pudding. She enjoyed dancing and trips to Las Vegas. Mrs. Krehbiel is survived by her sister Arlene Myers of Washington, IA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is also survived by a special friend, Don Kiesey of Mt. Pleasant, IA. Along with her parents and husband, Harold, Mrs. Krehbiel was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez Swailes, Helen Rodibaugh, and Darlene Rich; one brother, Russell Johnson; four nephews; and one niece.
