WILLIAMSBURG - Ira C. Nissley was born September 29, 1931 in rural Thomas, Oklahoma, the son of Chris and Sarah Ann (Yoder) Nissley. His family moved to Iowa when he was 12 years old living in the Kalona community. On October 28, 1952 he was united in marriage to Arlene Schlabach at the Parnell Mennonite Church. The couple has lived in the Williamsburg community since 1956. Ira farmed, owned and operated Burg Auto and Nissley Welding. He will be remembered for his love of family and his pleasure in all things mechanical. The best challenge for him was a project that seemed too difficult to fix. He was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church. Ira passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 87 years.
Ira is survived by his wife of 66 years Arlene of Williamsburg; 4 children: Darlene and Dale Chittick of Williamsburg, Keith and Gloria Nissley of Blounstown, FL; Brenda Nissley of Seattle, WA; Amy and Ardell Nissley Stauffer of Hesston, KS; 5 grandchildren: Carrie and Greg Dietze, Neal Chittick, Sarah Nissley, Max and Graham Stauffer; 5 great grandchildren: Camden, Ashley, Daniel, Hannah,Jenna; and 11 siblings: Leroy Nissley of Riverside, Lonnie Nissley of Blountstown, FL, Chris Nissley of Clarksville, FL, Ivan Nissley of Blountstown, FL, Mary Bell of Canyon Country, CA, Ann Hochstedler of Kalona, Heidi Smucker of Spring Mills, PA, Marie Detweiler of Tallahassee, FL, Pauline Miller of Craig, CO, Carolyn Yoder of Altha, FL, Treva Schrock of New Paris, IN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers Nelson and John.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell. Pastor David Heusinkveld and Pastor Martha Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-7 PM on Monday, January 21, 2019, at the West Union Mennonite Church where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 5-7 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the West Union Mennonite Church. The Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg is caring for Ira and his family.
