KEOTA-Ilo Marie Hagist, age 96, of Keota, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at the Sigourney Care Center, following a brief illness. Ilo was born November 9, 1911, southeast of Keota, Iowa, in Washington County, the youngest daughter of Lorenzo Dow and Mary Jane (Carris) Shaffer. She attended a rural school and graduated from Keota High School. She married Harold W. Hagist on July 5, 1932 at Rock Island, Illinois. The couple lived and farmed in the Keota community. On April 9, 1944, Ilo and her family joined the Church of Christ in Keota, Iowa. Survivors include two sons: Garold W. Hagist and wife Betty of Williamson, Georgia and Dr. Edward L. Hagist and wife Barbara of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; 10 grandchilden; 15 great grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harold on May 25, 1989; two sisters: Iris Peiper and Ruth Norris and daughter-in-law: Dixie Joan Hagist. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2007, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Keota Q.R.S. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
