Ida M. Grout was born October 25, 1918 near Sharon Center, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Mabel (Weeber) Meer. She graduated from Sharon Center High School in 1938. After high school she worked at an armament factory in Beloit, Wisconsin. On March 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Jesse Grout at the Evangelical United Brethren Church and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They lived in rural Riverside and moved into Kalona in 2004. She worked at the Westinghouse Learning Corporation after their children were grown. Ida was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, Corona Chapter #297 Order of Eastern Star where she was a 50 year member, the Alpha Club and the Questors. Ida was a friend to all, and she enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, quilting, traveling, and she played the piano for many occasions. Ida died suddenly on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 87 years. Ida is survived by her husband Jesse of Kalona; four children - Carma and Jon Kuhl of Iowa City; Warren and Cathy Grout of Forest, Virginia; Linda and Gary Talcott of Marion; Janell and Don Peters of Monticello; four grandsons - Nathan and Damien Grout; Chris and Pat Talcott; two great grandsons; and a brother - Robert Meer of Waukesha, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter Kara Grout; two sisters - Ethel and identical twin Ada; and four brothers - Ralph, Clarke, Roy and Gene.
A memorial fund has been established for the Sharon Center United Methodist Church and the Pleasantview Home.
