Howard W. Clark, 57, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Monday, April 04, 2011, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 6, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Reverend Martha Brunell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA, or National Neimann Pick Disease Foundation, the disease that took the lives of his two children. Born February 17, 1954, in Des Moines, IA, Howard Wayne was the son of A. Hugh and Doris Merical Clark. He was a 1972 graduate of Southeast Polk High School. Howard received an Associates of Arts degree in computer technology and then attended Missouri Baptist College in St. Louis. On October 16, 1976, he married Susie Smith in Runnels, IA. She survives. At the beginning of his career, Howard was a telecommunications manager for MCI. In 2004, he moved to Mt. Pleasant, IA to work for US Bank, and since that time has been the branch manager for the West Burlington location, and most recently returned to Mt. Pleasant as branch manager. Howard was a private pilot. As a personal mission, he financed and flew families to medical appointments in the Midwest. Howard was a loving father and husband, always putting his family first. Being outdoors was one of Howard's favorite past-times. He enjoyed working in his yard, hunting, and riding the family horses. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as a part-time Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant noon Rotary Club and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Along with his wife, Susie, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Howard is survived by a sister, Joyce (John) Foddrill of Morris, IL; his in-laws, Bill and Shirley Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and four sister-in-laws, Mike (Keith) Thomas of Winfield, IA, Nancy (Van) Beck of Hot Springs Village, AR, Chris (Larry) Mihalevich of Sheboygan, WI, and Teresa (Dave) Kennedy of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his two beloved children, Danny Wayne Clark and Lisa Marie Clark, Howard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alton Clark and Steve Clark.
