KEOTA-Howard Arnold Stoutner, age 97, of Washington, formerly of Keota, died Thursday, September 27, 2007, at the Halcyon House in Washington, from complications of age. Howard was born July 4, 1910, in Washington County, Iowa, to George and Ethel (Hagist) Stoutner. On January 14, 1930 he married Gladys Faris at Wee Kirk O' the Heather in Glendale, California. The couple lived and farmed in the Keota community until retiring and moving into Keota in 1975. They then moved to Halcyon House in Washington in 1998. Howard was a member of the United Church of Faith in Keota, the Lions Club, Keota Development Corporation and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed watching all sports, travel, hunting, fishing. Survivors include his wife: Gladys of Washington; daughter-in-law: Mimi Stoutner Stoner and husband Xen of Keota; two grandchildren: Laurie McAlister and husband Mark of Phoenix, Arizona and Eric Stoutner and wife Marion of Austin, Texas; three great grandchildren: Sam Stoutner, Kylie and Alex McAlister and one brother: Carl Stoutner and wife Edith of Keota. He was preceded in death by his parents and son: Dennis Stoutner. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2007, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. Kelly Allard officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2007, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Wilson Memorial Library or United Church of Faith. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
