Herbert Dale Huber, 84, of Wellman, died on Sunday July 13, 2008 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Faith in Keota with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the Wellman Cemetery with Military Rites. A memorial fund has been established for United Church of Faith, Wellman Heritage Museum, and Wellman Rotary Club. Herbert was born on March 4, 1924, near South English, Iowa, the youngest child of Otha Elwin and Lola Beryl (Teakle) Huber. He graduated from Washington High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II serving his country overseas in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943-1945. On March 3, 1946 , he was united in marriage to Marie Doris Herr at the Scotland Presbyterian Church near South English. They resided on a farm southwest of Wellman until moving to town in 1984. He was a grain and livestock farmer and began working for the Wellman Savings Bank in 1968 until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed his family, being outdoors in nature, helping at the farm, history, and collecting things. He belonged to the United Church of Faith in Keota where he was an Elder of the church and former Sunday School teacher. He had served as a 4-H leader, President of the Keota School Board, Washington County Board of Review. He also was a member of the Wellman Rotary for 33 years, and a Paul Harris Fellow, becoming an Honorary Member in June 2008. He had served on the Wellman Telephone Board, Wellman Scofield Public Library Board, the City of Wellman Board of Review, He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and other civic organizations. He is survived by three children, Linda M. (David) Birney of Washington, Margaret A. (Lanny) Brinning of Keota, and Jay O. (Patricia) Huber of Wellman. Grandchildren, Christine Birney of Winterset, Kyle Huber of Wellman, 3 step grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Clarahan of Harper, Allen (Megan) Miller of Iowa City, and Matthew Miller of Wellman, 3 step great grandchildren, Heidi, Jack, and Reagan Clarahan, a sister-in-law, Joyce (H. Elvin) Erdahl of Monticello. Other relatives surviving include a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, in October 2002, his parents, 3 sisters, Othene Walk, Iowa Jean Freeland, Ellene Clarahan, a brother, Hal Huber, and a step great grandchild, Mallory Clarahan.
