Henry Ray Zook was born March 10, 1939, in Dover, Delaware the son of Amos and Mollie (Byler) Zook. On November 22, 1961 he was united in marriage to Esther Beachy at the Sharon Bethel Church in rural Kalona. They lived in Pennsylvania for two years and then spent a year in Kansas before returning to Kalona. He owned and operated a greenhouse for many years. He was a member of the Salem Mennonite Fellowship Church. Henry died suddenly on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at his home in Kalona at the age of 70 years. Henry is survived by his wife Esther of Kalona; six children - Ella Jean Gingerich of Kalona; Larry Zook (Jewel) of Kalona; Joyce Martin (Jerold) of Wagener, SC; Alan Zook (Jean) Kalona; Jason Zook (Louise) Kalona; Leon Zook (Emma) of Villisca; 35 grandchildren; three sisters - Florence Miller (Alva) of Paris, TN; Mary Jane Beachy (Leroy of Berlin, OH; Katie Troyer (Edward) of MO; a brother Crist Zook (Irene) of Greenwood, DE; two brothers-in-law Raymond A. Miller of Paris, TN; Amos Schrock of Gladys, VA; and a sister-in-law Vera Zook of Lebanon, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren; two sisters Lydia and Barbara; and a brother Allen. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009, at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, and from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Fairview Mennonite Church where the family will be present Saturday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
