Henry Otto Carl "Hank" Von Ahsen , was born January 7, 1926, in Iowa Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Frieda (Huedepohl) Von Ahsen. He was baptized on February 7, 1926, and confirmed on March 17, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended school at Immanuel Lutheran School. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Laverna A. Lorenz on July 25, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a life long farmer of the Iowa County area. Henry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as a church elder. He enjoyed farming, carpentry, playing cards and most of all spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henry died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his wife Laverna Von Ahsen of Conroy; 6 children: Gene (Diane) Von Ahsen of Homestead, Randy (Carole) Von Ahsen of Williamsburg, Ken (Susan) Von Ahsen of St Charles, MO, Shirlene (Richard ) Dane of Waverly, Michael (Kristi) Von Ahsen and Kevin (Debbie) Von Ahsen all of Williamsburg; 17 grandchildren: Darcy (Brad) Schaefer, Derek (Jessica) Von Ahsen, Bethany Von Ahsen, Trent, Tiffany and Bryce Von Ahsen, Becky (Scott) Dalton, Hope (Luke) Scheele, Kurt Von Ahsen, Jennifer Dane, Paul (Jessica) Dane, Kenneth (Laura) Dane, Philip Dane, Lance and Ethan Von Ahsen and Jackie and Jessie Von Ahsen; 5 great grandchildren; a brother Elmer Von Ahsen of Blairstown and a sister-in-law Esther Von Ahsen of Newhall. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers Erwin, Edgar, Art and an infant brother; and 2 sisters-in-law: Rosetta Von Ahsen and Norma Von Ahsen. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-7 P.M. at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
