Helen C. Robertson, 101, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Carol Collett. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 25th, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July 26th, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Regan Stoops officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Point Cemetery. A memorial has been established to First Baptist Church. Born September 1, 1908, in Tippecanoe Township, Henry County, IA, Helen was the daughter of John Harvey and Myrtle Woodson Collins. She received her education at Pleasant Point Rural School, Mt. Pleasant High School, Iowa Wesleyan College, and the College of Commerce in Burlington, IA. On August 6, 1939, Helen married Kenneth Carrol Robertson in rural Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1972. Along with raising a family and helping her husband on the farm, Helen was a legal secretary. For many years she was employed at the Bainter Law Office. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant where she served as a deaconess and was a member of the Link Circle. She also taught Sunday school for about 50 years and helped with the youth group, as well. For many years, Helen was the chaplain for the Henry County Republican Women. She was a member of the Merry Workers Club. Helen was a friend to all, took pleasure in helping people, and was an inspiration to those around her. She enjoyed both her flower and vegetable garden. She was a good cook and often used the food from her garden to prepare meals for her family and friends. Helen was a talented artist who loved to draw and paint. She also loved to sew, play the piano and sing. Mrs. Robertson is survived by a daughter, H. Carol (Dwain) Collett of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, K. Harvey Robertson of Kingman, AZ; two brothers, Frank (Dorothy) Collins of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Jackson (Barbara) Collins of Des Moines, IA; and a sister, June (Fred) Klopfenstein of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Mrs. Robertson was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Flora Ford Kracht and Mabel Collins; a brother, John W. Collins; along with a great-grandchild and a great-great-grandchild.
