Helen Kathline Harvey was born March 16, 1927 in Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Ellsworth and Gladys (Simpson) Kelley. She graduated from Kalona High School in 1945. On May 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Charles Franklin Harvey in Kalona. They lived in the Kalona, Wellman, West Chester and Kinross communities. Helen worked at Maplecrest, Owens Brush and Parkview Manor. Helen and Charles owned and operated the Kinross Café and Tavern for several years before retiring. She was a member of the Baptist Church and the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, playing bingo, stock car racing and spending time with her grandchildren. Helen died on Thursday, June 30 at her sister's home in Iowa City following a brief illness at the age of 78 years. Helen is survived by 5 children - Richard Harvey and wife Shirley of Wellman; Elaine Smith and husband Darrell of Williamsburg; Barbara Aldeman of Wellman; Joyce Swartzendruber and husband Randy of Kalona; Charles Harvey and wife Michelle of Millersburg; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters - Martha Tomson of Morning Sun and Alverda Creamer of Iowa City. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in January of 2000; a son - John Harvey; 2 brothers - Harold Kelley and Darold Kelley; and 2 sister - Carol Kelley and Betty Kelley.
