Helen M. Johnson, 62, of Salem, IA, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Visitation will be held at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Harold Dorsey officiating. Inurnment will be in the Jaggar Cemetery in Danville, IA. Memorials have been established and may be directed to the family. Helen Marie Johnson was born on February 2, 1946, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, the daughter of Elmer L. and Velma M. McNeeley Lyon. She grew up in New London, IA, and received her education from New London High School. On July 8, 1963, she married Hubert C. Johnson in Pleasant Grove, IA. They lived north of Danville. The couple later divorced. Helen has lived in Salem since 1976. Helen was employed by Hawkeye Steel as an assembly worker. She later worked at Heatilator now known as Hearth and Home Technologies. Helen loved reading, especially murder mysteries. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and the company of her pets. Survivors include one son, Duane (Brenda) Johnson of Menomonie, WI; one daughter, Patty (Lloyd) Duncan of Hillsboro, IA; one brother, Bill Lyon of Illinois; one sister, Caroline (Jim) Stanton of Wabash, IN, and one sister-in-law, Opal Lyon of Salem, IA. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Neil Lyon.
