Williamsburg-Helen Joan Sandersfeld was born November 9, 1936 Malcom, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lenora (Hockett) Ohland. Helen was united in marriage to Louis Frederick Sandersfeld on November 4, 1956 in Malcom, Iowa. Helen foremost was a homemaker caring for their seven children, she also has been a waitress and worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in housekeeping. Helen enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, canning, raising chickens, working farmers markets, collecting antiques, playing the piano and spending time with her family. Her deep faith was shown as being a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Helen passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Lakeview Village in Amana with her family be her side at the age of 82 years.
She is survived by her husband Louis; seven children, Marie (William) Aldeman of Coralville, Laura (Denny) McCaw of Tiffin, Anita (Tim) Reihmann of Marengo, Mark Sandersfeld of Amana, Audrey Dimmer of Williamsburg, Vince (Amy) Sandersfeld of Longwood, Florida and Leon Sandersfeld of Frytown; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Marguerite) Ohland of Fort Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Celebration of life service will be 10:30 am Friday May 10, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Interparish School or Essence of Life Hospice.
