Millersburg Dateline Helen Fern Horras, age 89, died following a brief illness on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the English Valley Care Center in North English, IA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Community Church, rural Deep River, IA. Pastor Dan Dickey will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, IA. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Community Church projects. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helen Fern Horras was born on February 22, 1917 near Millersburg, IA, the daughter of Alfred and Coral Mae Humphrey Wyant. She attended Dayton country school and graduated from Millersburg High School in 1936. Helen was united in marriage to Orville C. Horras on August 17, 1940 at the Ohio Church Parsonage near Ladora, IA. They lived and farmed near Millersburg. Helen was a member of the Community Church where she was involved in the community mission circle. She also volunteered for many years at the East Iowa Bible Camp and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in September 2004 and died there on Thursday, September 21, 2006. She lived 89 years, 6 months and 30 days. She is survived by 5 children: Pat (Arlo) Tish of Deep River, IA; Carolyn (Gary) Armstrong of Deep River, IA; David (Carol) Horras of Millersburg, IA; Kathy (Delbert) Bahr of Fredricksburg, VA; and Darold Horras of Marengo, IA; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers: Arland Wyant of North English, IA and Gerald Wyant of Deep River, IA. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville in November 1982 and a sister Marilyn Gorsch.
