WELLMAN - Helen Elizabeth Yoder was born February 5, 1930 in Johnson County near Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Christian and Mary (Gingerich) Marner. She was in the first graduating class from Iowa Mennonite High School. On August 9, 1949 she was united in marriage to Clarence Yoder at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. They lived and farmed in rural Wellman. She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, Mennonite Historical Society where she served on the board for 25 years, and she was an active participant in the Kalona Fall Festival with the apple butter sales. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Helen died on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 81 years. Helen is survived by a brother Ray Marner and wife Ruth of Kalona; a sister-in-law Verl Marner of Kalona; three nieces - Karen Gugel (Duane) of Kalona; Cindy Marner of Kalona; Joyce Billups (Randy) of Kalona; three nephews - Dale Marner (Linda) of Kalona; Jeff Marner (Cheryl) of Kalona; Jon Marner (Beryl) of Kalona; and forteen great nieces and nephews; and 10 great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in September of 1991; and a brother Wallace. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson and Pastor Dick Swartzendruber will officiate. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Clarence and Helen Yoder Memorial Scholarship at Iowa Mennonite High School.
