Hazel Yaley, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center. Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9th at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Pleasant Manor Care Center Activity Fund. Born August 13, 1927 in rural Washington, IA, Hazel Mae was the daughter of Perl and Minnie Mowrey. She attended schools in Ainsworth, Saunders School in Mt. Pleasant, and New London schools. On February 10, 1950, she married Merle Downard Yaley in Nashville, TN. Hazel was a homemaker. She belonged to the neighborhood Happy Time Club. A favorite hobby was sewing, and she had made numerous afghans. As a couple, Hazel and Merle enjoyed square dancing and attending country western music festivals. Hazel especially enjoyed bluegrass music. Survivors include her husband, Merle, of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Ron (Sharon) Yaley of Burlington; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene "Molly" Hill of Mt. Pleasant. Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Richard Lynn Yaley; two sisters, Evelyn DeGrange and Merea Stagers.
