Harry W. Heldt, Jr. age 83, of Homestead, passed away Sunday May 2, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospital. Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 6, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial will be at the Homestead Cemetery, Homestead. Visitation: 4:30-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Harry is survived by his wife, Joan of Homestead; his children, Marsha Heldt, Monica (Roy) Kersten and Michael Heldt; and a sister, Karlene (Lavern) Holmberg. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harry Wayne Heldt, Jr. was born March 26, 1938, in Northwest Iowa, the son of Harry Peter and Laverna Evelyn (Spoo) Heldt. He graduated from the Terril Consolidated School System in 1956. He served his country by enlisting in the National Guard. Harry was united in marriage to Joan Markley on November 11, 1962. The couple are members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, where he served on the Board of Evangelism. Harry was employed at the Amana Furniture Shop in the wood working department from 1973 until his retirement. He also did local lawn mower repair. Harry was famous from start to finish making his apple cider. He loved drinking coffee, and gardening. Harry enjoyed traveling, visiting Kalona, and enjoying the simple life.
