A great man died in Sigourney quietly at home on Friday August 19th surrounded by love and family. Harry Richard Baumert, 85, was born in Keota on June 29, 1926, to Floyd and Pearl (Brock) Baumert. He attended Keota High School then joined the United States Army, serving in the Philippine Islands of Palawan and other Pacific theaters during WWII. In 1947 he met and married Frances Jean Schauf in Wellman. They celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. Harry became a certified auto mechanic working at Bandy's Garage and Gretter Motors in Keota. He moved to Sigourney and opened Baumert's Garage in 1966 while concurrently working at Natural Gas Pipeline where he retired in 1987. He worked in his garage until earlier this year. Baumert's Garage continues, operated by his sons and grandson. Harry's life, and the way he lived it, is his legacy to his proud family. He is survived by his wife Frances, sons Ronald and Richard (Christine)Baumert, daughters Cheryl Steffen, Colleen (Darrell) Goldman, Joanne Baumertomalka, Patricia (Peter) Hammes, and Sandra Killin, his grandchildren Jennifer (Dean) Palmer; Krista and Spencer Steffen; Jeremy (Maggie), Jake, and Joseph Goldman; Christopher, Alexander, Benjamin (Brandi), Dillon, Ethan, Pearl, and Lily Hammes; Travis, and Ashley Baumert; and five great-grandchildren. Also welcomed into his home, was his brother-in-law Bob Schauf at age 12 where he lived until he graduated. Gone before; his parents and siblings Paul, Howard, Duane, Norma, Glen, Donald, and Dorothy, and son-in-laws Nick Tomalka, and Karl Steffen Surviving siblings are Margaret Burke, Marilyn Van Fleet, Darlene Streets, Loretta Streigle, Dennis, Larry and Gene Baumert.
