SIGOURNEY-Harrison L. "Bud" Seip, age 82, of Sigourney, died of cancer Monday, November 5, 2007, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Harrison was born June 2, 1925, in Sigourney, to William Henry and Mabel (Strohman) Seip. He graduated from Sigourney High School and received his B.A. at Iowa Wesleyan College and M.A. at Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. He also served in the Army Field Artillery during World War II. On October 27, 1951, he married Bernadine D. Cassens in Lancaster, Missouri. Harrison taught science and math at Sigourney High School for 37 years, retiring in 1986. He also worked at the post office in Sigourney for 20 years and photographed many events, including weddings and senior pictures. Harrison was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney, where he served as elder for three years and sang in the church choir, Webb Lodge #182 A.F. & A.M., lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 19, V.F.W. Post # 2308, the National Education Association and Iowa State Teacher's Association and served as President of the Sigourney Education Association. He also served on the Sigourney City Council for 24 years, serving as mayor pro-tem for half of those years. Survivors include his daughter: Kandy McGuire and husband Kevin of Ottumwa; one granddaughter: Jaclyn Lee; two step grandchildren: Erin Moon and husband Collin and Ian McGuire; one brother: Bill Seip of Reno, Nevada; two sisters: Harriet Nelson of Fairfield and Carolyn Harkema of New Sharon and special friend: Sammie Albright. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Bernadine in 2000; two sons: Scott and Russell Seip; two brothers: Jim and Jess Seip and one sister: Shirley Seip. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney with Rev. Jim Stout officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney, with military rites by the American Legion Post # 19 and V.F.W. Post # 2308. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney, where there will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used for educational purposes. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
