Harriett Ruth Benesh, age 83 of Brooklyn, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 28, 2017, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Guernsey Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday, April 27, 2017, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband of 66 1/2 years, Loyal; her children, Sheri and Tim Atkinson, Teri and Carl Iezek, all of Brooklyn, and Jeff and Kristi Benesh of LeGrand; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Janice Buresh, and Sherry Kesl, both of Tama, along with her best friend Tippi. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Violet Brown, Bonnie Matula, Robert Willson, Marion Willson and Kenneth Willson.
Harriett Ruth was born May 7, 1933 in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Warren and Roxie Beal Willson. She attended the Tama schools, and married Loyal Franklin Benesh on December 6, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa. Besides being a wife, and mother, Ruth also worked various jobs outside the home, including working at Walmart for 15 years.
Ruth was active in her community and her church. She was a member of the South Side Circle for 58 years, and the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. She enjoyed word searches, embroidery, and cooking. She looked forward to the family vacations to Okoboji, and spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren and attending their many activities.
The family expresses their deep appreciation and thanks to the staff of the Brooklyn Medical Clinic and Brooklyn Community Estate, for the loving care and support given to Ruth and her family during her illness.
