Williamsburg and formerly of Conroy-Harold Adolph Martin Schwarting was born January 2, 1924 near South Amana, Iowa, the son of Egon and Margaretha (Witte) Schwarting. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Immanuel School. Harold was united in marriage to Shirley June Leahy on April 30, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. Harold grew up and farmed near Williamsburg, and in 1970 the couple moved to Conroy where they lived until moving to Highland Ridge in 200 4. Harold has been a life long farmer and worked as a carpenter for Wetjen & Swartzendruber Construction for 20 years before retiring in 1995. He then worked as a custodian for Jon Kinzenbaw for 12 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy where he has served as a trustee and help work on the remodeling of the church. He also was a former member of the American Legion. Harold enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, spending time with his grandchildren and twin great grandsons and being the candy man to everyone he would meet. . Harold died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at his home from complications of cancer at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Williamsburg; two sons: Gary (Janice) Schwarting of Ankeny and Rick (Barbara) Schwarting of Atkins; a daughter: Donna (Bruce) Lundeen of East Moline, Illinois; six grandchildren: Ashley Ott, Tamra Swartzendruber, Jason Von Ahsen, Nichole Schwarting, Chad Schwarting and Bryce Schwarting; two twin great grandsons: Kyle and Eric Ott and a sister: Helen Heitshusen of South Amana. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Oren and Orville Schwarting. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Friday, June 30, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Pastor Alan Hafner will officiate. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
