Harold L. Greiner, 83, of Iowa City and former long-time resident of Sigourney, died at 9:40 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. He was born January 14, 1926 in Sigourney, Iowa the son of Mathias Raymond and Luanna S. (Gross) Greiner. He married Dorothy M. Shannon in Sigourney, Iowa on April 22, 1947. He graduated from Webster High School, Class of 1943. He was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Sigourney and member of St. Patrick Church, Iowa City, past president of St. Mary parish council, past president of Keokuk County Pork Producers, past Lion Clubs member and member of Keokuk County Farm Bureau. Harold farmed his entire life north of Sigourney, semi-retiring in 1983 and living on the farm until one year ago when he and Dorothy moved to Iowa City. Harold and Dorothy were able to winter in Arizona for many years and Harold enjoyed when the grandchildren came down and he was able to show them the many sites. He had great faith in God, loved his family and the time he spent with them. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Greiner, Iowa City, Iowa; son Larry (Teri) Greiner, Iowa City, Iowa; daughter Jane (Gary) Glenn, Ottumwa, Iowa; son Steve (Muriel) Greiner, Sigourney, Iowa; daughters Sally (Joe) Peiffer, Davis, Illinois and Susan (Todd) Rogers, Ottumwa, Iowa, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother Francis (Judy) Greiner, Sigourney, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Edna Eisma. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 415 East Pleasant Valley Street, Sigourney, Iowa with Fr. Bernie Wehr officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney, Iowa. Visitation will beheld at Powell Funeral Home 105 N. Jefferson Street, Sigourney, Iowa from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2009 with a scripture service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to either St. Mary Catholic Church, 415 East Pleasant Valley Street, Sigourney, IA 52591 or St. Patrick Catholic Church 435 S Linn Street, Iowa City, IA 52240.
