Parnell-Harold James "Pug" Kelly was born near Parnell, Iowa the son of Pete and Elizabeth (Duffy) Kelly. He graduated from Parnell High School. He served in the Korean War. When Pug returned home from the service he worked for his father and the Parnell Elevator. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Carney on June 24, 1967 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell. He then worked for the Iowa D.O.T. and later the University of Iowa as a custodian for the Old Capital building. He has lived in the Parnell area all his life. Pug enjoyed golfing and gambling. Pug passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at his home in Parnell at the age of 78 years.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law: Delores Kelly of Las Vegas and Margie Carney of Parnell; a brother-in-law: Duane Wiebold of Parnell and 12 nieces and nephews. Pug was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathleen, 2 brothers: Donald "Doc" Kelly and Kenneth "Bud" Kelly and 3 sisters: Kathleen Bean, Patricia "Sis" Simon and Annabel Kelly.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will preside. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Parnell. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 4:00 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
