Harold Elroy Moffit was born on February 19, 1936, near North English, Iowa, a son of William and Bessie Simmons Moffit. He grew up and attended school in the Green Valley community. Harold served honorably in the US Marines and Army where he was an expert marksman. He loved to fish and hunt and was a Golden Gloves boxer in his younger years. He married Judith J. Knipfer and they later divorced. Harold married Delilah Trumpold Eichacker on September 13, 1980 in Cedar Rapids. Harold worked at Nissen Trampoline, Dearborn Brass and 20 years at Retail Data Systems in Cedar Rapids. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening. Harold became a resident of Manor Care in Cedar Rapids in August 2012. He died there on Monday, May 12, 2014. Harold is survived by his wife Delilah Moffit of Marion; a son William Moffit of Fairfax; grandsons Mack and Brayden Moffit; daughter-in-law Annette Van Thournout of Parnell; sisters: Velda Schauff of Wellman; Ruby Mayes of DeSoto, MO; Mildred Walters of Tiffin, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Roy Moffit, brothers: Dean & Wayne Moffit; sisters Emmagene Myers, Ida Herrick, Donna Perrin, Ruth Claypool and Arlene Swenson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Elder Alan Trumpold will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 PM service time on Friday. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery, rural North English. A general memorial fund has been established.
