Harold "Hal" Dahlgren, 76, of Franklin, IA, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, after a brief stay at the Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson, IA. He was born on April 21, 1930, in Hamburg, IA, the son of Russell and Meta (Leckenby) Dahlgren. Hal served from 1951 - 1953 in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. At his discharge from the service, he had obtained the rank of Corporal. He married Joyce Ann Jones on September 19, 1954, in Hamburg. Following their marriage the couple lived in Keokuk, IA, and then settled on a farm in Franklin, IA, where he has happily lived and farmed all of his life. He was assisted on the farm by his son Charles and by a true friend David Mehl. Hal worked for the CBQ Railroad out of Chicago, IL, for seven years. Later he worked for the Chevron Corporation of Ft. Madison, IA, as a chemical operator from the time they opened until the operation closed, which was twenty five years. After retiring, he became an over-the-road truck driver, learning to drive from his true friend Mike Levsen. Survivors include his wife Joyce of Franklin, IA; one son, Charles Dahlgren and his fiance' Kathy Johnson of Franklin, IA; one brother Clark Dahlgren and his friend Carol, and one sister Beulah Dahlgren, all of Omaha, NE; one sister-in-law, Barb and her husband Jerry McCredie of Keokuk, IA; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, one great-great niece and two great-great nephews. Also surviving are two step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Hal was preceded in death by his parents, all of his grandparents, and two brothers and one sister in infancy. Friends, neighbors and relatives may call on the family at the Dahlgren home, 2039 Franklin Road, on Saturday, July 8, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. to celebrate Hal's life. Per Hal's request there will not be a funeral or a visitation. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials should be made out to the Harold Dahlgren Memorial, of which will be used for an education fund for the youngest children ,which he loved.
