Harley Glenn Shetler was born October 17, 1926 in rural Kalona, Iowa, the son of Jesse and Anna (Hershberger) Shetler. He attended Evergreen School through the 8th grade. He was married December 14, 1952 to Emma Mast at the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church. He worked for 36 years at the University of Iowa Hospital as an Operating Room Technician. He was an active member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church where he was custodian and sound engineer at the church for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, going to auctions and reading. Harley passed away at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona on Friday, January 17, 2014 following a long illness at the age of 87 years. Harley is survived by his wife Emma; 6 sons Arnold (Linda) Shetler of Plain City, OH, Leonard (Rose) Shetler of Goshen, IN, Philip Shetler of Mechanicsburg, OH, Stanwyn (Beth) Shetler of Wellman, Elroy Shetler of Kalona, Merlin Shetler of Kalona; 2 daughters Marnetta (Jerry) Bradford of Shavertown, PA, Elaine (Merle) Miller of San Antonio, TX; 15 grandchildren Brendan and Brittany Bradford, Aaron, Ami, Linette and Luke Shetler, Darren, Kara, Jordan, and Blake Shetler, Lilianna and Sophia Miller, Thaddeus, Phoebe and James Shetler; 3 brothers Paul Shetler of Greenwood, DE, Dennis (Katie Ann) Shetler of Kalona, Philip (Janet) Shetler of Irwin, OH; 5 sisters Alta Yutzy of Hutchinson, KS, Magdalena (Vernon) Miller of Hutchinson, KS, Mary Jane (Ed) Miller of Kalona, Clara Shetler of Kalona, Ruth Ann Shetler of Kalona; and a sister-in-law Penny Shetler of Rising Fawn, GA. He is preceeded in death by his parents, his brothers John, Ellis and Albert, his sisters-in-law Mildred (John) Shetler and Dorothy (Paul) Shetler and a brother-in-law Raymond (Alta) Yutzy. Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:30 pm Monday, January 20, 2014 at Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. Pastors Floyd Yutzy, Floyd Helmuth and John King will officiate. Burial will be held in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm Sunday at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice and Northern Youth Program.
