Grace M. LaKose, age 87, of Brooklyn, passed away Monday July 25, 2022, at Grinnell Healthcare Center. Funeral service: 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00-7:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Grace is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, John of Grinnell; her children, Loretta (Dennis) Thompson of Grinnell, Rita (Gary) Grier of Newton, Duane LaKose (Wei Gao) of Chandler, AZ., and Wayne LaKose (Doris Nusbaum) of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren, Jarrett Thompson, Justin Thompson (Peyton Hall), Jessica (Adam) Johnson, Carrie (Dan) Cibula, Kristina (Nick) Cimaglia, Josh (Cassie) LaKose, Jeremy (Rachel) LaKose, Brett (Tammie) LaKose, Brittany LaKose, Keshia LaKose, (Richard Cooper); and 21 great-grandchildren, Keaton and Kamden Johnson, Addyson, Libby, and Maddox Cibula, Olive Judge, Caden, Joey, Beeya, and Jacob LaKose, Gwen and Toby LaKose, Riley, Ethan and Koen LaKose, Max, Ulysess, and Jaziel LaKose, Jasmine, Shaylnn, and Devin Cooper.  Also surviving Grace are her two sisters Jan Douglas and Kay Musgrove.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Kyle LaKose; and her siblings Loren Douglas, Maurice Jr. Douglas, Gene Douglas and Ray (Grace’s twin) Douglas.

Grace Mae Douglas was born March 29, 1935, in Malcom Township, the daughter of Maurice and June Andes Douglas. She received her education from Mclure School in the Malcom Township later graduating from BGM with the class of 1953. Grace was united in marriage to John LaKose on June 6, 1953, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Grace worked for the Sears Catalog Store in Grinnell for 19 years. Her and John farmed for 35 years in rural Malcom raising crops and livestock for their family. Grace enjoyed sewing and making all the kids’ clothes when they were growing up. She loved collecting owls, computer games, playing cards, tending to her garden and watching Wheel of Fortune. Grace loved being on the farm and traveling with John to Minnesota and Diamond Lake for their fishing trips. She especially enjoyed hosting the family dinners and get togethers.
