Grace Ellen Olson

Grace Ellen Olson, age 102, of Williamsburg, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Highland Ridge Care Center. Services will be private with Pastor Don Dovre officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to First Lutheran Church, in Conroy, in Grace’s name and sent to Kloster Funeral Home, 298 W. Washington St., Marengo, Iowa 52301.

Grace is survived by her children, Jim Olson, of Olympia, WA and Dick (Karen) Olson, of Marengo; four grandchildren, Brian (Kerri) Olson, of Grinnell, Chad (Megan) Olson, of Minneapolis, MN, David (Barb) Olson, of Albion, NE and Jennifer (Timothy Russell) Olson, of Olympia, WA; seven great-grandchildren, Henrik and Fern Olson, of Minneapolis, MN, Isaac and Olivia Olson, of Grinnell, Stephany (Ethan) Echert, of Norfolk, NE; Jacob (Jenny) Olson, of Omaha, NE and Madeline Olson, of Olympia, WA; and a sister Betty (Jack) Patterson, of Tuscon, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Walt, in 1990, a sister Norma Halverson, a brother Olin Helgeson and a daughter-in-law Cynthia Olson.

Grace Ellen Helgeson, was born July 13, 1918, in Conroy, the daughter of Hjalmar and Anna (Olson) Helgeson. She graduated from Conroy High School. Grace was united in marriage to Walt Olson on April 5, 1941. She owned and operated a beauty shop outside of Marengo for 35 years. Grace enjoyed many hobbies playing bridge, doing ceramics, oil painting, knitting, flower gardens and stained glass art. She also liked to go fishing and mushroom hunting and especially loved to travel and visit cousins back in Norway. Grace helped make the stained glass window on the entrance into the First Lutheran Church.
