Gordon Dean Schlabaugh, was born August 18, 1934, near Wellman, Iowa, the son of Sam and Nettie Yoder Schlabaugh. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1953. On October 22, 1955 he was united in marriage Lois Horrisberger in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. He has lived and farmed in the Wellman area all his life. Gordon was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church. He loved animals, gardening, cars and reading. Gordon died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Parkview Manor, Wellman, at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his wife Lois of Wellman; 4 sons- Daryl (Charity) Schlabaugh of Iowa City, Lee Schlabaugh, Jim (Beth) Schlabaugh and Neil (Anne) Schlabaugh all of Wellman; 5 grandchildren Stephanie Schlabaugh, Austin Schlabaugh, Jared Schlabaugh, Jack DeRycke and Lance Gordon Schlabaugh; 2 sisters-in-law: Madena Schlabaugh and Laurine Schlabaugh both of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Eldon and Don and an infant sister Gladys. Celebration of Life Service will be held, 10:30 AM Friday, May 20, 2011, at the West Union Mennonite Church, rural Parnell. Pastor Martha Yoder and Pastor Ray Reimer will officiate. Burial will be in the West Union Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established.
