Goldie Olene Wade was born on September 26, 1920, in Trippe County, on the Rosebud Indian Reservation, near Winner, South Dakota, a daughter of Samuel L. And Emma E. Jaynes Longwell. When she was 9 months old her family moved to a farm in Iowa County, Iowa. She attended the Mid Prairie Country School. Goldie was baptized in the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman, IA, on June 14, 1925. She was united in marriage to Carroll Jay Wade on July 2, 1937 in North English, IA. They made their home and farmed in Keokuk and Iowa Counties, moving to the North English area in 1943. They moved into town in 1975. Carroll preceded her in death in September 1981.Goldie was a member of the North English United Methodist Church and held offices in the United Methodist Women; was one of the first cooks at the North English Community Center and with Congregate Meals, and was active in the Sunshine Circle Club and the Merry Mixer Club. She enjoyed volunteering at the Thrift Shoppe and providing transportation for those people who needed it. The joys in her life included her family and family get-togethers. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in September 2003. Goldie O. Longwell Wade, age 84, died following a short illness on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 26, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Pastor Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery near North English. Public visitation will be form 3 PM until 8 PM Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Powell Funeral Home in North English. She is survived by daughters Joan Colbert of Sigourney, IA; Jane Dietze (Jim) of Williamsburg, IA; David Wade (Shirley) of North English, IA; Samuel Wade of Oxford, IA; and a sister Phyllis Menke of West Point, IA; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.
