WILLIAMSBURG - Gloria Lucille Garton, 82, of Williamsburg, Iowa died Sunday, June 26, 2011after a short illness at the Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City surrounded by her loving family. Memorial services will be held Thursday June 30, 2011at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Kip Murphy will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour before the service. The Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg is in charge of the arrangements. Messages may be sent to the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com Gloria Lucille Dobson was born in Decatur County, Iowa on June 26, 1929, the daughter of Leo Franklin and Olive Lucille (Orfield) Dobson. She graduated from Albia High School in 1947 and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She married Donald Dack in 1951 and to this union 4 daughters were born, Diane, Denise, Jane, and Julie. They were later divorced. In 1975, Gloria was united in marriage to Dr. Glenn Garton in Chariton, Iowa. Gloria worked as a registered nurse at many hospitals throughout Iowa eventually retiring from the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chariton, P.E.O. and the DAR. She enjoyed her many social activities including quilting, bridge, and book clubs. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. Gloria is survived by her daughter Julie (Greig) Jones of Williamsburg, son-in-law Kevin Putney of Indianola, grandchildren, Aaron (Amanda) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Jared (Laura) Jones of New Liberty, Brian Jones and his fiancée Kate Mirr of Iowa City, Mark Putney of Indianola, Curtis Putney of Des Moines, great grandchildren Logan and Landon Jones of Cedar Rapids, and Hunter Jones of New Liberty, brothers Raymond (Geraldine) Dobson of Colorado Springs, CO and Eugene (Jackie) Dobson of Eddyville, sister Patricia Fynquist of Fort Wayne, IN., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dr. Glenn Garton, daughters Diane and Denise in infancy, daughter Jane Putney, brothers Donald, Robert, Joseph, Claire, and Charles Dobson, sisters Maurine Frizzell, Virginia Vaughn, and Mary Dobson.
