Glennis Stutzman

Wellman- Glennis (Steckly) Stutzman was born November 17, 1929 in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Enos J. and Amy L. (Hershberger) Steckly. Following graduation from Wellman High School, Glennis attended teacher training and taught at Green Valley School in North English, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Marlin L. Stutzman on June 1, 1952 at Wellman Mennonite Church and they made their home in Wellman. Glennis was an active member of Wellman Mennonite Church where she held leadership roles in Mennonite Women and taught Sunday School for many years. She was involved in community organizations and served on the Care Review Committee at Parkview Manor, the Wellman-Scofield Public Library Board, and volunteered at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics from 2000 to 2016, logging over 1000 hours. Glennis was a member of Wellman Garden Club and Embroidery Club, and enjoyed an active life until well into her 80s. In 2018 after a brief illness Glennis suddenly lost her vision, and her life immediately changed. Glennis passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 94 years.

Glennis is survived by her children David (Donnita) Stutzman of Oxford, Kathy (Dennis) Schuit of Oak Forest, IL, Pam (Jim) Hochstedler of Kalona, Julie (Gary) Bontrager of Wellman, Tony (Angela) Stutzman of Wellman; her grandchildren Rachel Jesse, Joshua Hostetler; Mark (Kristin) Schuit, Katelyn Schuit; Doug Hochstedler; Mallori Bontrager, Allison (David) Yoder, Bradley Bontrager, Cassidy (Luke) Hertzler; Jordan (Keith) Miller, Jarron (Linnea) Stutzman. She was GG to Luke, Marvin, Lydia and Brooklyn; Lea; Mariah and Delaney. She is also survived by her sister Magdalene Yoder of Eugene, Oregon.

Glennis is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marlin in 1998, sisters Lois Miller and Kathryn Steckly, brothers-in-law Willis Miller and Paul Yoder, and nephew Warren Miller. 

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all her friends and loved ones who helped us keep her at home for as long as was possible, to the staff at Reflections who was also her family in our absence during Covid, and the staff at Parkview Manor who showed her such compassion. 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Wellman Mennonite Church. Burial will be at Wellman Mennonite Cemetery in Wellman. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Wellman Mennonite Church. Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is caring for the family.
