Glenn I. Swartz, 70 of Crawfordsville, IA, died Friday, October 30, 2009, at his home. According to his wishes, Mr. Swartz' body will be cremated. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the Olds United Church of Christ. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church, with the Revs. Carl and Elaine Vass officiating. Memorials have been established to the Olds United Church of Christ and to P.A.L.S. (Passing Along Loving Smiles), a project founded by Mr. Swartz' granddaughter, Kaitlyn Kelly. The Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant is assisting the family with the arrangements. Born October 31, 1938, in Champaign, IL, Glenn was the son of Jerome B. and Dema L. (Baker) Swartz. He graduated from Affton High School in St. Louis, MO, and the University of Missouri at Rolla. On November 29, 1958, he married Patricia Ann Ward in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Swartz was a metallurgical engineer. He worked as a manufacturing manager at Sheaffer Pen in Ft. Madison. Glenn later worked as an operations manager at Nypro in Mt. Pleasant. Glenn was an active member of the Olds United Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. He was a board member and past president of the Mt. Pleasant Noon Rotary Club, served on the Mt. Pleasant Rec Center Board of Directors, the Ft. Madison School Board and Area Education Agency Board. He was also a member of Friends Reach Out and the Terrace Lake Home Owner's Association. Mr. Swartz was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his family. He took a very special interest in his grandchildrens' activities. Glenn is survived by his wife, Patricia of Crawfordsville; his mother, Dema Swartz of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter, Jana Kelly of Mediapolis, IA; a son, Steven (Terri) Swartz of Jamestown, NC; and one brother, Larry Swartz of Branson, MO. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Stephanie and Lauren Swartz, and Kaitlyn, Aaron and Payton Kelly; and one great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Swartz - Scallon. Mr. Swartz was preceded in death by his father.
