Homestead-Glenn Frederick Wolter was born October 2, 1931 near Homestead, Iowa, the son of William J. and Rose Johanna (Wichmann) Wolter. He attended St. John Parochial School and graduated from Marengo High School in 1950.Glenn served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. Glenn was united in marriage to LaJune Katherine Nemitz on June 10, 1955 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church-Hanover, near Charter Oak. He farmed near Homestead and worked for the Homestead Implement for 32 years before going to work for the VA Medical Center in Iowa City retiring in 1990. Glenn enjoyed visiting with family and friends especially his grandsons. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antique farm machinery, especially the Minneapolis Moline Tractors. He was a life long member of the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg. Glenn had been a resident of the Highland Ridge Care Center where he also enjoyed visiting with friends and staff. Glenn died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 81 years. He is survived by two daughters: Jeanne Welsh of Williamsburg and Patti (David) Heitshusen of South Amana; three grandsons: William (Abby) Heitshusen of Washington D.C., Brett Heitshusen of Colorado and Michael Welsh of Williamsburg; a great granddaughter: Taylor; a sister: Betty (Robert) Roemig of Homestead; a sister-in-law: Mary Wolter of Homestead; a brother-in-law: Edwin (Frances) Nemitz of Charter Oak and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife LaJune in 2008, two brothers: Jerry Wolter and an infant and a son-in-law: William Welsh. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. There will be a VFW Service at 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Homestead, with Military Rites by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797. Memorials are for the LaJune Wolter Scholarship Fund or the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
