Glen G. White was born May 12, 1913 in Hydro, Oklahoma the son of William and Magdalena (Miller) White. His family moved to Iowa when Glen was 3 years old. He attended Poplar Grove rural school. On February 21, 1939 he was united in marriage to Amy Martin at the English River Church of the Brethren near South English and they made their home in the Wellman community. Glen farmed for 46 years and worked as a security officer for the University of Iowa for 23 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church. Glen died on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness at the age of 91 years. Glen is survived by his wife Amy of Wellman; 2 daughters - Crystal Tschantz and husband Gary of Davenport; Cynthia Schlabaugh and husband Craig of Wellman; a son Martin White of Cincinnati, Ohio; a granddaughter - Kelly Tschantz Leby of Oakland, California; a brother - Clayton White of Kalona; and 2 sisters - Wanda Marner and Wahneta Detweiler of Hesston, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Walter White; and 2 sisters Edith White and Olivia Steckley.
A Memorial FUnd has been established for the Wellman Volunteer Fire Department and the Wellman Ambulance.
