SIGOURNEY-Glen D. Bakehouse, age 84, of Sigourney, died following a short illness on Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Glen D. Bakehouse was born on July 4, 1922, east of Sigourney, IA, the son of Albert H. and Sophia W. Bruns Bakehouse. He went to country school No. 10, graduated from Hedrick High School and attended one year at Iowa State University. Glen spent two and one half years building B24 bombers in San Diego, CA and two years in the US Army in Southern Europe during World War II. He came home to Hedrick in July 1946 and started farming. Glen sold seeds and fertilizer with his father. He was united in marriage to Lois Maxine Sorden at the Hedrick Presbyterian Church on June 27, 1948. Glen was active in the Presbyterian Church and later in the United Methodist Church. He was a 4-H member and leader, Lions Club and a sixty year member of American Legion Post #83. Glen had a great interest in history and genealogy. He enjoyed traveling and art. He was active in the Keokuk County Historical Society, and was an inventor with several patients. He and Lois spent 20 winters in Arizona. He is survived by a son: Neil Bakehouse and fiancee Lynn MacKenzie of Ankeny, IA a daughter: Betty Hall of Mitchellville, IA; a daughter-in-law: Dr. Mary Rosman-Bakehouse of Sumner, IA; 4 grandchildren: Karl Lowe, Amie, Nathan & Annie Rosman-Bakehouse; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister Eileen Herr (Allan) of Eugene, OR. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Lois in December 2005 and a son James Bakehouse. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the Sigourney United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery near Webster, IA. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. Memorials may be given to the Hedrick American Legion, The Sigourney United Methodist Church or the Sigourney Lions Club.
