KEOTA-Vera Gladys Green, age 96, of Keota, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, following a brief illness. Gladys was born December 8, 1911, in Hubbard, Iowa, to Fred and Elizabeth (Gildermister) Boeke. Some years later her mother married Charles Clark. On July 30, 1932, Gladys married Louis Allen Green in Sigourney. Her step-father, Charles Clark, officiated the ceremony. Gladys worked in the school lunch program when her children were small. She then worked at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, Washington County Hospital, Maplewood Manor in Keota, the Quadrangle in Iowa City and Oakdale security. She also helped with Bible school and made quilts at the United Church of Faith in Keota. Survivors include one son: Gary Allen Green of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one daughter: Shirley Boeke Miller of Muscatine; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father; husband: Louis Green; son: Vincent Allen Green in infancy; brother: Charles Clark, Jr. and sister: May Rence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Keokuk County. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
