Giles William Escher was born September 1, 1912 in Washington County near Richmond, Iowa the son of Joseph and Anna (TeBockhorst) Escher. He attended the Holy Trinity Catholic School in Richmond. On February 14, 1950 he was united in marriage to Eileen Franzen in Washington. He lived and farmed in the Richmond community all of his life. He also sold Vigertone feed and worked at the University of Iowa for several years. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Society of Foresters. Giles enjoyed to garden, hunt and attend auctions. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Giles died on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the Washington Care Center in Washington following a long illness at the age of 93 years. Giles is survived by his wife Eileen of Kalona; 7 children - Mary Escher of Kalona; Joe Escher and wife Kathy of Wilton; Jim Escher and wife Lori of Kalona; Donna Tucker and husband Dean of Kalona; Laurie Calkins and husband Craig of Kalona; Jane Montgomery and husband Tim of Lone Tree; Karen Hansen of Kalona; 12 grandchildren - Penny (Don) Beuter, Jenny (Matt) Sebetka, Chris McClure, Tammy Tucker, Eric Escher, Josh Escher, Kelsey Hansen, Matt Escher, Mark Escher, Alex Brown, Shelby Hansen, Katelyn Escher; and 6 great grandchildren - Megan and Morgan Beuter, Matalyn, Abigail and Curits Sebetka, and Tyler McClure. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Margaret Heck and a brother Claude Escher.
