KEOTA-Geraldine Merle (Starr) Stoutner, age 99, of Louisville, Colorado, formerly of Keota, died Monday, August 28, 2006, at the Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville, Colorado of natural causes. Geraldine was born September 18, 1906 in Wellman, Iowa, to J.C. and Cora (Shetler) Starr. She graduated from Wellman High School in 1925 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now U.N.I.) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught rural school for five years, retiring in 1930. On November 11, 1930 she married Albert K. Stoutner in Wellman. The couple lived and farmed in Washington County, near Keota, where Geraldine was active as a 4-H leader, chair of the American Heart Association, leader of Fortnightly Club in Washington, chair of the Washington County Farm Bureau Women and organized the Maplewood Manor Auxiliary in Keota. Following marriage Geraldine transferred her church membership to the Christian Church in Keota where she served in various capacities for the many years she lived in Iowa. Geraldine moved into Keota following Albert's death in 1967. She served as chair of the Iowa Division of the U.S. Country Women's Council from 1968 until 1971. In 1956 she was named an Iowa Master Farm Homemaker and served as President of the National Farm Homemakers. As a member of the U.S. Country Women's Council she helped organize the National American Indian Women's Association. As chair of the Country Women of the World she conducted conferences in London, England, Lansing, Michigan, Norway, Australia, Africa and Canada. She also enjoyed traveling to the Orient. In 1984 she moved to Long Beach, California and in 1995 she moved to the Arvada Meridian Retirement Community in Arvada, Colorado, to be near her family. Survivors include two children: Don Stoutner of Brighton, Colorado and Judi Stinemates and husband Phil of Broomfield, Colorado and two grandsons: Kurt Stoutner and Eric Stinemates. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband: A.K. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2006, at the United Church of Faith in Keota with Pastor Sallie Graves officiating. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A memorial fund has been established for the Christian Church in Lakewood, Colorado or the Wilson Memorial Library in Keota. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
