Geraldine D. "Gerri" Mathews, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Wednesday, March 06, 2013, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center in New London, IA. The family will receive friends from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. There will not be a memorial service. Her body has been cremated according to her wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the family. Born February 6, 1942, in Chicago, IL, Geraldine Dorothy was the daughter of James L. and Evelyn Helen (Moody) May. Her formative years were spent in San Diego, CA where she graduated from Kearney High School. She later earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Southeastern Community College. She married Richard Marrs. The couple was blessed with two children, Sherry and Terry. The couple divorced. She later married Gary E Meth, Sr. From this union, the couple had two children, Gary E Meth, Jr. and Gerald (Jerry) Meth. They also divorced. Gerri resided in Santee, CA for 15 years. She moved to Mt. Pleasant 33 years ago and began working as a charge nurse at Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winfield, IA. She retired from this position in 2003. A favorite hobby was to crochet blankets for her loved ones. She also enjoyed doing word find puzzles. Survivors include four children, Sherry (Randy) Carver of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Terry Carver of Washington, IA, Gary (Jennifer) Meth, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Jerry Meth of Mt. Pleasant, IA; four grandchildren, Stormy (Abe) Smith of Des Moines, IA, Zach (Cassandra) Carver of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Chaz Meth of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Spencer Carver of California; a great-granddaughter, Summer Carver of Altura, MN; and two brothers, James (Joann) May of Lakeside, CA, and Chuck (Teri) May of Santee, CA. Preceding her in death are her parents.
