North English- Gerald Marvin Rodby was born September 17, 1948, in Independence, Iowa the son of David Marvin and Leola Mae (Hicks) Rodby. He graduated from Jesup High School in 1967 and attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville. On September 6, 1969, Gerald was united in marriage to Linda Lee Sauer at the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup. Over the years they lived in Wakefield, Nebraska, Centerville, Oskaloosa, What Cheer and North English. Gerald worked in the food service industry, and as a heavy equipment operator, a police officer, a retail clerk for Dollar General, and a welder for Williamsburg Manufacturing. Gerald was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup and the Kinross Farmers Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, tending to his garden and tinkering in the shop. Gerald died on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 76 years.

He is survived by his wife Linda of North English; two daughters Hiede Rodby of Williamsburg and Vesta Rodby of North English; three grandchildren Dakota (Brittani) Rodby of Hills, Eric Rodby of North English and Mason Allie of Boone; five great grandchildren Henry, Tessa, Noah, Carson and Leola; a sister Karen Atkins of Marion; and a brother Dennis (Carmella) Rodby of Wakefield, Nebraska. He was preceded by his parents and a sister Donna Rasmussen.
