Williamsburg-George James Hanson was born August 16, 1924 near Holbrook, Iowa, the son of Thomas E. And Mary E. (Armstead) Hanson. He graduated from Parnell High School. He served during WWII in the US Army Air Corp from Feb. 1944 to Nov. 1945. George was united in marriage to Roberta H.Edwards on September 3, 1949 in Holbrook. He farmed east of Williamsburg all of his life. He was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Holbrook for many years, and a present member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus and the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg. George and Roberta enjoyed wintering in Arizona. George died Friday, December 21, 2012 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his wife Roberta of Phoenix; their children: Mike Hanson and Roberta S. Hanson both of Phoenix; 3 grandchildren: Chad (Angela) Hanson of Cedar Rapids, Robbie (Brian) Pauly of Mason City and Nicholas Hanson of Phoenix; 4 great grandchildren and a brother: Thomas (Sally) Hanson of Denver, Colorado. George was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Terry Hanson; 4 sisters: Helen Knight, Catherine McDonald, Norma Hanson and Mary Laurine Lower and 2 brothers: Clement Hanson and Joseph Hanson. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am on Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, with Military Rites by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797. Visitation will be Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. There will be a KC Rosary and Prayers Service at 3:30.
