Geng Baccam

Geng Baccam, 82, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015 in Smyrna, TN. Friends may call Friday, September 4, 2015 from 1-7 p.m., and the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 5th at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Interment will be on Tuesday, September 8th at 10 a.m. in the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center, IA. Geng Baccam was born in Sonla, Vietnam on March 15, 1933. She was the daughter of Our Lo Van and Aung Lo Thi. She was adopted when she was very young by Truc Nachiengane and Phoun Lo. She had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. On December 24, 1952, she married Khamdeng Baccam in Vietnam. Geng was a loving homemaker, devoting her time to her family. She enjoyed gardening, with an amazing ability to grow almost everything. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, including her kids and grandkids. She was a member Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Geng also participated in the Lao Tai Dam Bible Study. She is survived by her husband Khamdeng (Smyrna, TN); seven sons, Pheth Baccam (Sioux Center, IA), Viengkham (Nouane) Baccam (Mt. Pleasant, IA), Boon (Hong) Baccam (Worthington, MN), Somdi Sean (Stephanie) Baccam (Hull, IA), Syla (Tanya) Baccam (Little Elm, TX), Khampouth Baccam (Austin, TX) and Souvanna (Mindy) Baccam (Hull, IA); and four daughters - Khamphoui (Tom) Veunvilavone (Mt Pleasant, IA), Bouala (Nahm) Marie Lo (Smyrna, TN), Ni (Khamphet) Kounavong (Nimes, France), and Chanhom (Bill) Tharrington (Des Moines, IA). She had a total of 24 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Geng was preceded in death by her three sons, Phouk, Mo and Khamko and her parents. She passed away peacefully on August 28, 2015, at the age of 82, surrounded by her children and husband.
