Genevieve M. West was born on June21, 1910, near Holbrook, IA, the daughter of John and Katy Welch Griffin. She graduated from Parnell High School. On December 2, 1930, Genevieve married Milo West at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, IA. They made their home and farmed in the Parnell & North English communities. Genevieve was a farm wife and also worked in the 1970's as a cook at Mary Welsh Elementary School in Williamsburg. She loved to travel with her family, play pepper and play the slot machines. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar & Rosary and several card clubs. Milo preceded her in death in 1987. She moved into North English in 1998. Genevieve became a resident at the English Valley Care Center in North English in March 2006. She died there of complications of old age on Tuesday, January 16, 2007. Genevieve lived 86 years, 6 months and 27 days. She is survived by Dale & Sue Eichenberger and Keith and Matt West. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son David West, a grandson Michael West, brother John Griffin, sisters Helena Wetherall, Madge O'Rourke, Loretta Hahn and Regina Harris. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, January 18, 2006 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English with the Rev. Pat Lumsden & the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. A private committal service will be held at a later date in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, January 18, 2006 from 1:30 PM until service time at 4 PM.
