WASHINGTON-Genevieve "Geny" S. Bombei, age 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Washington, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Geny was born June 16, 1918 in Harper, Iowa, to Vincent and Dorothy (Peiffer) Schulte and attended St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Harper. On January 31, 1939, she married Leonard H. Bombei at St. Elizabeth Church in Harper. The couple lived and farmed near Packwood, Brighton, West Chester and Washington. Geny moved to Cedar Rapids in January of 2005. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington, the Altar and Rosary Society and the "Sew-n-So" Club in West Chester. Geny enjoyed cooking, her faith and her family. Survivors include five children: Gary Bombei and wife Rosalyn of Solon, Ohio, Ronald Bombei and wife Marietta of Indianapolis, Indiana, Connie Conklin and husband Robert of Chicago, Illinois, Bonnie Quick and husband Russ of Lincoln, Nebraska and Mary Holcombe and husband Jim of Marion; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother: Robert Schulte of Keota and three sisters: Arlene Samuelson of Washington, Thelma Mahan of Wayland and Betty Adams of Delta. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Leonard in 1994 and two sisters: Irma Gent and Theola Hermann. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Paul Appel officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids or St. James Catholic Church. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Geny and her family.
