Geneva Nancy Simoens was born on November 7, 1918 near Williamsburg, IA, the daughter of Alfred William and Grace Elizabeth Schneider Blount. Grew up near Williamsburg.. Geneva married Henry (Hank) August Simoens on September 21, 1935 in Independence, IA. Since then they have made their home in the North English community. She and Hank spent many winters in Texas. Geneva was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary Society and the VFW Auxiliary. She loved her times with her family and the many phone calls from them. Her faith and the devotion to the Rosary were very important to her. She died on Friday, March 12, 2010 at the English Valley Care Center. She lived 91 years. Geneva is survived by Shirley (Marion) Conner of Millersburg, IA; Jim (Sandra) Simoens of Ft Myers, FL; Lois Ralston of Palo, IA; Larry Simoens of Cedar Rapids, IA Janice (Jim) O'Rourke of Lee's Summit, MO; 18 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; Also surviving are brothers Eugene Blount of Victor, IA; and Wayne Blount of Amana, IA; sisters Marguerite Kahler of Marengo, IA; Elaine Means of Greenfield, IA and Deloris Miller of Geneseo, IL. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in February 1992, brother Edwin Blount, sisters Maxine Gegenheimer, Dorothy Hite and Ruth Ferrell, daughter-in-law Sandy Simoens and son-in-law Larry Ralston. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March, 15, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English, with Rev. Joseph Roost presiding Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Powell Funeral Home in North English on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to North English First Responders, St. Joseph Catholic Church, English Valley Care Center or the North English Community Center.
