Gene Brenneman

January 13, 1960 — September 18, 2017

Gene Wray Brenneman was born January 13, 1960, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Brenneman and Joan Williamson. He graduated from Keota High School in 1978 and attended Kirkwood Community College. Gene was united in marriage to Lisa Horras on May 27, 1989 at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Harper, Iowa. Throughout his life he had worked at 76 Ltd., Keokuk Feed and Grain, Duwa Construction and in 1988 became the owner operator of Brenneman Construction. Gene served on Lagos Acres Country Club board for many years, Washington County I-Club, Keota Athletics Boosters and the Keota Ball Association.
He enjoyed anything that involved family and friends, golfing, watching the Keota Eagles, Sigourney-Keota Cobras, Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. His interests include going to movies, show pigs with his son, the Iowa State Fair and listening to country music (and dancing!). In his younger days he was involved in motocross and playing slo-pitch with Butchy Bear and the boys. He also coached his kids in softball, baseball and basketball for 25 years. Gene passed away Monday, September 18,2017 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington at the age of 57 years.
Gene is survived by his wife Lisa; three children: Hannah Brenneman (boyfriend Kerry Unkrich) of Winfield, Haley Brenneman of Des Moines and Cole Brenneman of Keota; two brothers: Rob (Char) Brenneman of Washington and Lynn Brenneman of Keota; two sisters: Christi (Mark) Beenblossom of Washington and Brenda (Terry) Dunphy of Grimes; his mother: Joan Williamson of Washington. He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth in 2016.

A celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 24,, 2017 at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the church. Please join the family after visitation for an Iowa Hawkeye tailgating reception at Lagos Acres for food, fellowship and watching the game. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gene Brenneman Memorial to go towards improvements at Lagos Acres and the Keota City Ball Park.
