She became interested in teaching because of a wonderful third grade teacher she had. Gayle taught one year in a country school and three years at Millersburg Public School. After raising her children she went back to teaching from 1969 to 1984 in the Deep River-Millersburg district, for a total of 21 years. Gayle married Harold Goodman in 1942 and they made their home on a farm near Millersburg. Harold passed away in 1968. Gayle has remained on the farm until her death with cancer on January 29, 2007. She lived 88 years, 8 months and 12 days. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son-in-law Kenny DeMar. Gayle accepted the Lord as her Savior as a young girl and enjoyed serving the Lord in various ways. She was a member of the Community Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, a Bible School director, and was always lending a helping hand to a neighbor. Gayle also directed the craft work at East Iowa Bible Camp for 22 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. While she enjoyed genealogy and history, her greatest joy was her family.
